Pilgrimage to
Palestine and Israel
Rev. Juanita
Austin writes:“In the fall of 2013,
I had no intention of going to Palestine and Israel but I accidently heard
Natalie Maxson give a 15 minute presentation on an up and coming trip. Just for
a moment, Natalie lost her composure as she talked about the arrest of
Palestinian children as young as 12 years old, being blindfolded and handcuffed
with zip-ties and being hauled off to jail in the middle of the night.
She compared it to the compulsory rounding up of First Nations children
in Canada, some as young as 5 years old, being hauled off to residential school.
The Spirit drove me, as it drove Jesus into the wilderness.
I knew I needed to go.”
We have the
opportunity to accompany Juanita on this amazing and disturbing journey through
her stories, photos and music. Come and learn, ask questions, and wonder
together about how we can
empower the many people – Christians, Muslims, Jews and others - who are
committed to peace, justice and reconciliation through non-violence in Palestine
and Israel.
Juanita has
been an ordained minister with the United Church of Canada for 28 years and is
currently serving the congregation of Sicamous United Church.
