What is the point of Lent? For Christians, it is the time when we try to trim away some inessentials, and return to and refresh the things that are at the real centre of our lives and bring light into the world.

A Lenten Reflection

 

Give up complaining----focus on gratitude.

Give up pessimism----become an optimist.

Give up harsh judgments----think kindly thoughts.

Give up worry----trust in the Lord.

Give up discouragement----be full of hope.

Give up bitterness----turn to forgiveness.

Give up hatred----return good for evil.

Give up negativism----be positive.

Give up anger----be more patient.

Give up pettiness----become mature.

Give up gloom----enjoy the beauty that is all around you.

Give up jealousy----pray for confidence.

Give up gossiping----control your tongue.

Give up sin----turn to virtue.

Give up giving up----hang in there!

The word Lent comes from a word meaning “springtime.” It’s a time of new beginnings that come from giving ourselves to God as the Holy Gardener who cares for us, prunes away the negative, and helps us grow into the fullness of life.
